Raising the Industry Standard

Organic textiles, fair wages, and recycled packaging are our new industry standard. Which is why our ethics are woven into everything we do. From our factory to your front door, our principles and commitment to environmental responsibility are at the forefront of our process. And we believe transparency plays an important role in holding the fashion industry accountable.

Our Process: Design

Our design practice always begins with a single question: is this a fundamental wardrobe piece? We don’t buy into passing trends or fads, which means our staples won't fall out of style. And to make sure our pieces hold up for years to come, our garments are made from durable and timeless cotton. So whether we’re designing a super soft sweatshirt or a trusty pair of jeans, our staples will age as gracefully as you do.

Our Process: Textiles

Using almost exclusively cotton textiles is a huge part of our sustainable and ethical production practice, which helps to keep our garments nearly 100% plastic-free. Our cotton crops are grown and spun in India and Turkey, then shipped to our Los Angeles factory to be cut, dyed (using non-toxic, azo-free, metal-free and formaldehyde-free dyes), and finally, finished for manufacturing.

Our tees, sweatshirts, and sweatpants are made from GOTS certified organic cotton in lieu of conventional cotton, which is not only highly pesticide invasive, but requires additional water to produce. By using GOTS certified organic cotton, our textiles are free of all chemical insecticides, pesticides and synthetic fertilizers—which is better for the environment and better for you.

Our Process: Manufacturing

When it comes to manufacturing, we keep it close knit. Which is why from cutting to shipping, our garments are made locally in Los Angeles. This allows us to oversee production and reduce shipping. Plus, our carefully selected family-run factory not only pays living wages, but has kept the majority of their team employed for over a decade.

Our Process: Packaging

Because we sell almost exclusively online, we pay special attention to our packaging and shipping practices. Our mailers are made with a minimum of 50% recycled paper and printed with water based inks. Our hang-tags are also made from recycled paper.

Our Process: Circularity

To keep our textiles in circulation even longer, we participate in Cotton’s Blue Jeans Go Green™ denim recycling program to give old Industry Standard jeans a second life.

If you’re interested in upcycling a pair of  Industry Standard jeans, send us an email and we’ll send you a prepaid label and a $20 credit towards a new pair. Your old jeans will be repurposed into natural cotton fiber insulation, and used in building efforts around the country.

Blue Jeans Go Green™ is a trademark of Cotton Incorporated.

And we always give back.

We support our community by partnering with independent female artists on limited edition embroidered or screen printed garments. Plus, we regularly create limited edition pieces and donate up to 50% of the proceeds to a chosen non-profit. Past pieces have benefited The New York Fund for Public Health, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and the California Environmental Justice Alliance.
